The layout
The layout has been built using proprietary laser cut baseboards, and was originally designed to get new members into the hobby learning new skills.
Built as a standalone DCC layout Stonehaven is not based on anywhere specific. The name derives from the two ends of the layout where a stone quarry occupies one end, and a small canal dock basin occupies the other end. Situated between these is a small station with two platforms where a variety of goods and passenger trains stop and pass each other. At each end behind the back scene there are two fiddle yards.
Locomotive operation is by DCC controllers and points are currently operated by switches on an analogue control panel but will be upgraded to a DCC system in time.
The complete layout requires a total space of (TBC) and is operated from the rear. Normal operations require two operators. The layout is self supporting. One table is required and two chairs. One 240v ac socket is required to plug into. The layout travels in a small trailer requiring one vehicle to tow it.
